Why convert to PDF at all
A .docx renders differently depending on who opens it. Different Word version, missing font, different default margins, and your carefully placed table moves. A PDF fixes the layout in place, so the contract you send is the contract they see. It is also what most systems require for signing, filing and long-term records.
About fonts
Conversion runs on Linux, where Microsoft's own fonts cannot be redistributed. Calibri, Cambria and Arial are therefore substituted with metric-compatible equivalents — every character occupies exactly the same width, so line breaks, table widths and pagination are unchanged. The letter shapes differ very slightly on close inspection. For the overwhelming majority of documents this is invisible; if you need a specific typeface guaranteed, embed it in the Word file before converting.
