Terms of Service

1. Agreement to these terms

By accessing or using pdfdw you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and by our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the service. If you are using pdfdw on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you are authorised to accept these terms for it.

2. The service

pdfdw provides web-based tools for editing, converting, organising and securing PDF documents. Several tools run entirely in your browser and require no account. Others require server-side processing and are governed by the credit and subscription rules in section 5. We may add, change or retire individual tools as the service develops.

3. Accounts

• You must provide accurate registration details and keep them current.
• You are responsible for keeping your credentials confidential and for activity under your account.
• Accounts are for a single user. Do not share credentials or resell access.
• You must be at least 16 years old to create an account.
• Tell us promptly at support@pdfdw.com if you suspect unauthorised use.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to use pdfdw to:

• Process or distribute material that is unlawful, defamatory, fraudulent or otherwise prohibited by applicable law.
• Infringe anyone's copyright, trademark, trade secret, privacy or other rights.
• Remove password protection from, or otherwise circumvent controls on, a document you are not authorised to access.
• Alter documents in order to deceive, including forging signatures, certificates, invoices or identity documents.
• Upload malware or attempt to compromise, probe or disrupt our infrastructure.
• Circumvent credit limits, rate limits, paywalls or access controls, including through automated scripting or multiple accounts.
• Scrape, resell or white-label the service without our written permission.

You are solely responsible for having the right to process every document you submit.

5. Credits, plans and free tools

• Free tools. Browser-based tools are free and need no account.
• Credits. Server-side tools draw on a credit balance. Free accounts receive a limited allocation; paid plans increase or remove it according to the plan.
• Failures are refunded. Where a paid operation fails for a technical reason on our side, the credit is returned. A poor-quality result caused by the source document — an unreadable scan, for instance — is not a processing failure.
• No cash value. Credits are not currency, cannot be transferred or exchanged for money, and carry no value on account closure.
• Fair use. We may apply rate limits and size caps to keep the service available to everyone.

6. Billing, renewal and cancellation

• Merchant of record. Payments are processed by Lemon Squeezy, who act as merchant of record and handle billing and applicable sales tax or VAT. Their terms apply to the payment transaction, and we never receive your full card details.
• Automatic renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically each billing period until cancelled.
• Cancellation. You may cancel at any time. Access continues until the end of the period already paid for, and no further charge is taken.
• Refunds. Statutory rights, including any applicable consumer withdrawal right, are unaffected. Outside those, refunds are at our discretion — contact us and we will deal with it reasonably.
• Price changes. We may change prices with reasonable advance notice. Changes never apply to a period you have already paid for.
• Failed payment. If a renewal payment fails, premium access may be suspended until payment succeeds.

7. Your documents and content

Your documents remain yours. We claim no ownership of anything you process.

You grant us only the narrow, temporary licence needed to perform the operation you requested: to receive, process and return your file. That licence ends when processing does, and files are deleted immediately afterwards. We do not use your documents to train models, for advertising, or for any purpose other than delivering the result you asked for. Many tools never transmit your file at all — see the Privacy Policy for which ones.

8. Our intellectual property

The pdfdw name, branding, interface, copy and underlying software are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by intellectual property law. These terms grant you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive right to use the service; they do not transfer any ownership. You may not copy, decompile or create derivative works from the service except where the law expressly allows. pdfdw builds on third-party open-source components, which remain governed by their own licences.

9. Advertising and third-party services

The service may display advertising, including through Google AdSense, and may link to third-party sites. We do not control advertisers or third-party content and are not responsible for it. Your dealings with third parties are between you and them. Cookie choices relating to advertising are described in our Cookie Policy.

10. Availability and changes

We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. Maintenance, third-party outages and factors outside our control can cause downtime. We may modify or discontinue features; where a change materially reduces what a paid plan offers, we will give reasonable notice.

11. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate access if you breach these terms, particularly section 4, or where required by law or necessary to protect the service or other users. Where circumstances allow, we will tell you why. You may stop using pdfdw and close your account at any time.

12. Disclaimer of warranties

The service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, to the fullest extent the law permits. In particular, automated processing such as OCR, conversion, compression and text replacement is inherently imperfect, and we do not warrant that output will be complete, accurate or fit for a specific purpose. Always review results before relying on them, and keep your own backup of any original document.

13. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, pdfdw is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data, goodwill or anticipated savings, arising from your use of or inability to use the service. Our total aggregate liability is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or fifty US dollars. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

14. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify pdfdw against claims, losses and reasonable costs arising from your breach of these terms, your misuse of the service, or your processing of material you had no right to process.

15. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the service evolves. We will revise the date above and, for material changes, give reasonable notice. Continuing to use pdfdw after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms.

16. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws applicable at our place of establishment, without prejudice to mandatory consumer protections in your country of residence. We would much rather resolve problems directly, so please contact us before starting formal proceedings.

17. General

If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest remains in force. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it. You may not assign these terms without our consent; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets. These terms, together with the Privacy and Cookie Policies, are the entire agreement between us.
